National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed a new commercial solicitor to strengthen its national Media Entertainment team as part of its ongoing strategy to expand its national business legal services division. Based in the Gatwick office, Kate Norris joined the team in March from Wright Hassall, with a brief to support the firm’s expansion and growing portfolio that covers all branches of digital media and media and entertainment law.
Irwin Mitchell’s leading Media & Entertainment team supports businesses and professionals throughout the creative industries and was a finalist in the 2020 UK law firm of the year category at the Music Week Awards.
A composer in her own right, Kate has written two original musical theatre productions and in addition to her experience of live productions, professionally recorded an EP album during her postgraduate studies, with the help of a grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
Commenting on her new role, Kate said: “Irwin Mitchell has a superb reputation for media and entertainment law, so given my own background, joining the team here was a natural step. I’m looking forward to helping to build on our work and support a sector that has endured so many challenges as a result of the nationwide lockdowns.”
Laura Harper, partner at Irwin Mitchell and media and entertainment sector lead said: “Kate’s background and experience make her a perfect addition to the team and we’re delighted to welcome her to the role. Kate’s practical knowledge of the world of theatre and music will be a real asset, as we continue to support businesses and professionals which have faced unprecedented challenges as a result of the twin impact of Covid-19 and Brexit.
“In addition to challenges the past year has presented opportunities, particularly in the digital media sector and Kate’s appointment gives us more strength in depth as we look to support our clients and communities as they emerge from lockdown over the coming months.”
