CBI Council role for senior Leeds lawyer
The head of Irwin Mitchell Business Legal Services in Leeds has joined the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Yorkshire and Humber Council.
In addition to heading the team in Leeds, Paddy Sturman is a partner in the national Banking and Finance team. He is joining a body that aims to bring business and government together, with a view to enhancing the local economy and championing the best the region has to offer.
Paddy will serve on the council for the next 12 months where he will join over 40 executive CBI members in sharing expertise, looking to help shape the CBI’s policies and campaigns on the issues that matter most to regional business.
The 12 regional and national councils of the CBI meet quarterly and feedback their work to the Chair Committee, which uses the understanding gained to plot the organisations course in addressing the views and priorities of business throughout the UK.
Paddy will be using his experience as head of Irwin Mitchell Business Legal Services teams, who specialise in corporate, real estate, restructuring & insolvency, intellectual property, commercial litigation, employment and commercial law, to help the CBI Council focus in on priorities for businesses on the ground.

Commenting on this new role with the council, Paddy Sturman said: “With the challenge of Brexit and of course the tragic events of the last year, there couldn’t be a more important time to join the CBI council. I’m really looking forward to lending my support over what will be a vital 12 months, as we all aim to recover from the impact of both the pandemic and Brexit on business.
“As the recovery gets underway, there is much we need to do, to support business, our institutions and our local communities to get back on their feet. This region has proven credentials in delivering sustainable business models and we have the skills and workforce to rebuild the economy here and also continue on the government’s promised objective of levelling-up the economy.
“Firms are going to need support as we all get back to a new normal and if greater certainty can be delivered on the issues still surrounding Brexit, it is possible to be very excited about the future in Yorkshire.
“There will doubtless be challenges to move from surviving to thriving again but the levelling up agenda promises the shot in the arm needed to allow us to move with confidence into the future.”
