Chilham Definitive Map Modification Order: Public inquiry to commence 24 November 2015

The inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will tomorrow begin to hear the public local inquiry into the above order. The purpose of the inquiry will be to determine whether the Kent County Council decision to upgrade the length of byway AE429 to a restricted byway should be confirmed or modified.

There is a substantial local view that the byway should remain for the use of pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders only, particularly after significant funds were spent upgrading the surface of the path so it could be incorporated into National Cycle Network path 18. However, the Kent branch of the Trail Riders' Fellowship will argue that it should be open to certain motorised vehicles, to include trail bikes.

Familiar arguments for James Pavey and the Thomas Eggar Rural business and estates team who deal with several such inquiries each year.

The inquiry will commence tomorrow and is listed for four days.
