International students ripe for the picking for scammers
International (and European) students have historically had to contend with increased rents, increased level of deposits and insisting on a UK personal guarantor. With the change in the law regarding the tenancy deposit schemes, many universities stepped up to advise their students of their rights. In light of the increase in scams and in light of the UK wanting to remain attractive as a destination for education, perhaps it is time for either each university to provide a more comprehensive service to house students by hugely increasing their number of approved landlords, or perhaps even a quasi-governmental entity to perform this function?
