The recent twitter campaign #ILookLikeAnEngineer has been quickly followed by others such as #ILookLikeAPhysicist and #ILookLikeASurgeon in an attempt to break (and highlight) the stereotypes that unfortunately still appear to be associated with certain professions.
Anti-discrimination law has (almost) been in place for 40 years and unfortunately experiences such as those mentioned in this story are still live issues. Therefore it will be interesting to see if social media can achieve what the law has not yet quite managed to.
Last week thousands of women took to Twitter to challenge gender stereotypes by proclaiming "I look like an engineer". Inspired by the move, female doctors are doing the same, posting selfies along with the message "I look like a surgeon".”
