Most Housing Associations will accept extension of right to buy
Following a ballot last week, 86% of members of the National Housing Federation (the representative body for housing associations) have voted in favour of offering their tenants the right to buy. The Conservative Government had wanted to impose this by legislation. Assuming that the various stakeholders can be satisfied (boards, tenants, councils, banks, funders) then over the next few years up to 2.3 million homes could be transferred to private owner occupation without a single new home being built.
